| There Be Monsters describes the time period when things dramatically changed due to Hurricane Katrina and the ensuing flood of the city of New Orleans beginning on August 29, 2005. I did not lose my home or my office to flooding, but the entire city was devastated. I lived at my parent's house an hour and a half west of the city for three months, and one of the first items I grabbed (after the dogs) on a rare visit to the house was all of my masters materials and computer. However, I found that I could not work on my studies, at first because we were numb with fear and uncertainty and then after we returned to the city, the needs for help and resources were so great, any free time was devoted to volunteer work or attending many many recovery planning events. I did manage to finish my portfolio during this time. There is no link for this document as it is a binder of materials from my life. Many people in New Orleans have lost much of these types of remembrances and records of their past life. Here is a link to a good interactive graphic on what happened when the levees broke: The links to the left will take you the following places: Ship's Log - journal entry excerpts Help and Direction - people who provided support and direction Provisions - resources, links and books that were helpful Challenges and Learnings - comments and downloadable documents written by me during the period
